Ian Thomson will honour Natalia Ginzburg on the centenary of her birth (1916 – 1991)

Natalia Ginzburg, one of the greatest Italian writers of the last century. She wrote novels, short stories and essays exploring family relationships, politics during and after the Fascist years and World War II, and philosophy. She won some of the most prestigious Italian literary prizes: the Strega Prize, with her masterpiece Lessico famigliare in 1963, and the Bagutta Prize, with La Famiglia Manzoni, in 1984. Most of her works are also translated into English and published in the United Kingdom.

Ian Thomson, writer and journalist, - 'a chronicler of formidable power' (Guardian) - is the author of Bonjour Blanc, an acclaimed book about Haiti, and of Primo Levi ('one of the best literary biographies of the year, 2002, Observer). His book, The Dead Yard, a vivid exploration of Jamaica, won the Ondaatje Prize and the Dolman Travel Prize 2010. He is a full-time journalist based in London and he writes for different newspapers: Sunday Times Magazine, The Independent, Daily Telegraph, The Spectator, Times Literary Supplement.
