Mario Brunello in conversation with Peter Quantrill

Mario Brunello in conversation with Peter Quantrill

Italian cellist Mario Brunello talks to Gramophone journalist Peter Quantrill about Miles Davis, whom he describes as his greatest inspiration for his musical expression, free from the constraints of the classical performance tradition.
Brunello has applied this approach to the music of contemporary composers as well as Baroque repertoire.
The cellist's current project is performing Johann Sebastian Bach’s violin repertoire on the violoncello piccolo, which he demonstrated at the National Gallery last October with Bach’s famous "Violin partita n. 2". Brunello will talk about the new venture with this unusual instrument, finishing the evening with a performance of Bach’s epic "Chaconne" from the "Violin Partita n. 2" on the violoncello piccolo.
Colle Anese provides a tasting of its exclusive prosecco produced close to Brunello’s local region near Conegliano.
The next day Brunello performs at the National Gallery in front of the Renaissance painting "The Incredulity of Saint Thomas", by Cima da Conegliano.
