12th Italian-British Constitutional Conversation

FACING UP BREXIT: UK AND ITALIAN CONSTITUTIONAL AND LEGAL PERSPECTIVES

Foreword: Alessandro Torre - University of Bari; Aldo Moro - Devolution Club
Chair: Claudio Martinelli - University of Milano Bicocca - Devolution Club
Speakers: Marta Cartabia - University of Milano Bicocca – Justice in the Italian Constitutional Court; Sebastian Payne - University of Kent - Uk Constitutional Law Association
Discussant: Peter Leyland - SOAS University of London – UK Constitutional Law Association

Why did Brexit happen? What is the future of the United Kingdom once out of the European Union? What a constitutional lawyer may say about the implications of the Brexit on the UK governmental system? These are some issues that an Italian-British roundtable may help us to understand.

On the occasion of the 12th Italian-British Constitutional Conversation, the Italian Cultural Institute hosts once again the Devolution Club association that, in cooperation with the UK Constitutional Law Association and the DPCE, the association of Italian comparative public lawyers, sets up a workshop to discuss about the constitutional sides of the Brexit. Two perspectives, the domestic one from Britain, and the comparative from Italy, will reconstruct the main events that at present time are bringing the UK to leave the European Union and check how far the Brexit, under the historical response of the 2016 referendum, is expected to affect the balance of the British Constitution.
