Emilio Isgrò – an evening of poetry with Valerio Magrelli, Jamie McKendrick and Marco Delogu

I don’t consider myself a painter, but rather a poet who writes with images.
— Emilio Isgrò, 1985

Tornabuoni Art London presents the first UK retrospective of Italian artist Emilio Isgrò (b. 1937). One of the great innovators of the artistic language in post-war Italy, Isgrò offers a different perspective on the country’s artistic panorama to what has been shown in the UK before. Tornabuoni is taking this opportunity to broaden its focus beyond the Italian avant-garde groups of the 1950s-1970s and consider the role of one of the main proponents of Poesia Visiva (Visual Poetry) and precursor of international conceptual art since the early 1960s.

To mark the end of the exhibition, the Tornabuoni Art London organizes an evening of poetry: a reading of poems by Valerio Magrelli, one of Italy's foremost Italian avant-garde poets, followed by a conversation between the author and British poet Jamie McKendrick, moderated by Marco Delogu, Director of the Italian Cultural Institute - London.

Tuesday 4 April, 6-8pm, at the Tornabuoni Art Gallery
