Emergency: Health Care with an Italian Design
This is the story of a "cathedral in the desert" the Salam Centre for Cardiac Surgery in khartoum, Sudan, where everything from the building to the management structure has been designed to represent the fundamental values of caring and preserving life, regardless of gender, race and belief.
Raul Pantaleo, designer/architect of Emergency hospitals in Africa, Lucia Rocca, emergency mid-wife in Afghanistan, and Gianluca Cantalupi, EmergencyUK trustee in London, illustrate their experience in Khartoum as well as the mission of Emergency.
Emergency is an NGO, founded in Italy in 1994 and accredited by the UN in 2006, EmergencyUK followed in 2007.
